Drop - In   Friday nights  (check calendar for dates)

Alternating boys and girls nights where youths of diverse ages can mingle and have fun playing different sports activities such as dodge ball, basketball, volleyball and other fitness related activities.  As well,  we have board games,  a variety of arts and crafts programs,  gettoni table, air hockey table, ping pong tables, and electronic football games that are all available to the youth membership.

Basketball Camp- Free to register

Instructor Fernando Marrello provides the program and is typically offered on Friday nights. It is offered to the female youth membership separately  and male youth membership separately on alternating Fridays on DROP IN nights. This program teaches basic basketball skills, with a variety of  drills and scrimmages. Fernando offers excellent instruction and has the patience with our youths to ensure they are learning as well as having fun.

This year we hope to form a boy’s team and girl’s team to play other churches and schools or to enter into  tournaments.

Art Classes- hosted by A Stroke Of Art Studios, Mirella Tersigni

mirella@astrokeofart.ca

Stroke Of Art Studios has created a special 8 to10 session program for the Catholic Youth Clu.b The participants are  introduced to various forms and styles of design and expression, ultimately revealing the youth’s artistic abilities. It’s amazing to see this artistic side of our youth membership that Mirella manages to reveal !

Mirella has a gift and she is sharing it with us. She donates her time and we pay only for the materials needed.

Class is limited to20 youths based on a first come first in opportunity.  We will not take early registration.  A fee for the program will apply to cover the cost of materials. More details to follow.

Dance Lessons - Free to register

Dance lessons are hosted by some of our high school youth members. These Instructors each have experience in dance instruction and make it fun for everyone. They teach our youth membership hip hop dance styles, as well as preparing them to perform in our talent show.

Soccer League - $65 per youth registry

A very exciting style of subtle competitive soccer where the youths have a great time and the parents are passive and entertained. Agitation and negative outbursts are not tolerated or accepted. The league is community based and therefore, know one another.

Each team consists of youths from each age of 7 to 14 all teams are built equally. This reduces bulling at school level as well as creating a mentoring style league.

Talent Show -  fund raiser

Our youths register a performance (free to register). The Youths audition for practice purposes (everyone passes the audition) and participate in ongoing  rehearsals. They ultimately perform in a theater in front of a live audience. Theater capacity is 330. We have had 25 performances within  the past 2 years. There is a minimal charge for show tickets that goes toward our fund raising initiates within the CYC.

Auditions are performed in front of other registered performers.  NO PARENTS OR SPECTATORS ALLOWED

Rehearsals are sometimes performed week nights or on lunch hours at school.  Rehearsals continue weekly until  the  participants are comfortable and ready for the show.

Day of show  The youths are dropped off at theater (parents sign them in) about 3pm. They go through a complete dress rehearsal. They are given food and drinks and then we start the show. At intermission while spectators are buying snacks our performers are escorted to the food area and are provided food and beverage. The youths are kept together and cannot leave the group. Security is very tight. Parents cannot talk to any of the performers until we sign them out to the parents. Our shows have been highly successful and fun for all participants and staff.

Dances ( Non-alcoholic with themes )

Dances are held throughout the year as a time to celebrate and rejoice. Security is very tight with our parent volunteers stationed statically as well as roving security to monitor the dancing.

We bring in a variety of music to promote dancing. We offer  50’s 70’s 80’s and contemporary music. We avoid rap and music with swearing and obscene language. We try special performances, tunnels, spot dances, king and queen, etc.

Dance costs are $5 for advance tickets and $6 at the door. Drinks are $1/glass, water $.50/glass, popcorn $1/bag.

We encourage the youths to bring a minimal amount of money to purchase refreshments for hydration as it can get warm at these dances. Refreshments are easily purchased from our volunteer staff in the serving and bar area.
